Our First Pokhara Visit

20255 min read

First time in Pokhara, no plan, no guide - just us, our cousins, and the city waiting to be explored.

We Planned It All Ourselves - Somehow

This was our first time visiting Pokhara. No travel agent, no guide, no one who had been there before. Just us, our cousins, and the plan we put together on our own - completely from scratch.

And honestly? We were totally blank. We didn't fully know what to expect, where to go first, or even how things worked there. But that's exactly what made it exciting. We were going in with open eyes.

"No guide, no plan, no clue - just us figuring it out as we went."

Evening in Lakeside - And We Were Immediately Hooked

We reached Pokhara in the evening, and the first thing we did was step out to Lakeside. The moment we hit those streets, something just shifted. The energy was completely different from Kathmandu - slower, more colorful, and every street had a number. It felt like a little world of its own.

We didn't even know the way to Fewa Lake at first. We were walking around, taking it all in, figuring out the layout street by street. And then, from a distance, we spotted what looked like Disneyland.

"Every street had a number. It felt like a little world of its own."

The Moment Our Eyes Went Wide

We followed the lights and ended up at the restaurant area near Lakeside - and the ambience completely caught us off guard. The restaurants, the setups, the whole vibe. It made our pupils go big, as one of our cousins put it. We were laughing and pointing at everything like tourists who had never seen anything like it.

And to be fair - we hadn't. Not like this.

"The ambience made our pupils go big. We couldn't stop laughing."

The Collaborations We Did

Beyond just exploring, we also made the most of our time by collaborating with some of Pokhara's most interesting spots. We visited Hotel Tulsi, Hangrygen, Utopia Garden Restaurant & Snacks Bar, Cindermint, and My Old House - each one completely different in character, food, and feel.

Every place had something that stood out. From cozy indoor setups to open-air garden restaurants, it was a proper tour of what Pokhara's food scene has to offer. And doing all of this as first-timers, in a city we'd only just arrived in, made every bite feel even better.

"Each place had its own character. Pokhara's food scene surprised us at every stop."

Beyond the Food - The City Itself

We also made sure to see the city properly. We went boating on Fewa Lake, visited Davis Falls, and explored Mahendra Cave. Each of these felt like a completely different experience from anything we had back home.

Davis Falls especially - the sound, the depth, the sheer drop of it - is something you have to see in person. And the cave, with its low ceilings and narrow passages, was the kind of thing that makes you feel like a kid again.

Fewa Lake in the morning - still, quiet, and unforgettable.

What We're Taking Back

We planned this entire trip ourselves. No agency, no template, no one to call if things went sideways. And it worked. Not perfectly - we got lost more than once, and we definitely missed a few things we should have seen - but it worked.

Pokhara has a way of making you feel like everything is going to be fine. The streets are friendly, the food is honest, and the lake doesn't care how lost you are. We'll be back - and next time, we'll know exactly where we're going.

But honestly? Getting lost the first time was half the story.
